Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee had a meeting with Indian Ambassador to Vietnam
On June 17th, Chairman of Can Tho City People’s Committee Truong Canh Tuyen and leaders of some relevant departments and agencies had a cordial meeting with Mr. Sandeep Arya, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to Vietnam, to visit and work in Can Tho city.
At the meeting, Mr. Sandeep Arya expressed his pleasure to visit Can Tho city for the first time and was impressed by the warm welcome and hospitality of the people of the city.

Mr. Sandeep Arya said that the purpose of his visit to Can Tho city this time is to learn about the concerns and development priorities of the new Can Tho city on the basis of merging the current Can Tho city and the two provinces of Hau Giang and Soc Trang, as a basis for the two sides to share mutually beneficial development cooperation opportunities. In addition, he will also spend a short time visiting the Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute to learn about cooperation opportunities to develop rice varieties that are adaptable to climate change or resistant to harsh weather conditions.
According to Mr. Sandeep Arya, over the past year and a half, India and Vietnam have witnessed many important turning points in bilateral development relationship between the two countries. He hopes that in that development relationship, Vietnamese provinces and cities, including Can Tho city, will play a proactive and decisive role in enhancing cooperation between the two countries, especially focusing on developing outstanding fields in economics, science and technology, which are the top priorities of both India and Vietnam.
Mr. Sandeep Arya also informed that currently, a number of large Indian corporations are very interested in seaport construction projects and renewable energy projects in Vietnam, and at the same time want to learn more about the development priorities and related projects of Can Tho city in this field. In addition, many famous Indian universities also expressed their desire to seek potential partners from universities through the Indian Embassy in Vietnam to cooperate in developing the fields of quantum computing, artificial intelligence, digital technology, etc. “We are looking for local partners in Vietnam so that the two sides can cooperate in developing these fields”, Mr. Sandeep Arya added.

On this occasion, Mr. Sandeep Arya also expressed his hope that Can Tho city would organize an event to mark the 10th anniversary of International Yoga Day in Can Tho city, thereby contributing to the development of people-to-people exchanges and cooperation in the field of cultural exchange between the two countries.
Expressing his pleasure to welcome Mr. Sandeep Arya for the first time to visit and work in Can Tho city, Chairman of Can Tho City People’s Committee Truong Canh Tuyen said that on June 12th, the National Assembly of Vietnam issued a Resolution on the arrangement of provincial administrative units.
Accordingly, Can Tho city will merge with Soc Trang and Hau Giang provinces. From July 1, the new Can Tho city will come into operation, opening up many new development spaces to promote development, creating favorable conditions for close linkages in economic, cultural and social spaces, promoting advantages according to scale and combining the strengths of each locality. In particular, Can Tho will play the role of a center for trade, services, and high-tech science; Soc Trang will focus on developing the marine economy, a center for seaport logistics services; Hau Giang will focus on developing the digital economy and high-tech agriculture.
The Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho City also said that in the upcoming breakthrough of Can Tho City, it will promote the development of high-tech agriculture, production according to the green economic model, circular economy, especially the application of digital transformation technology in the production sector. In addition, the city will also focus on developing a number of areas such as: seaports, renewable energy, wind energy, solar energy. These are favorable conditions for the two sides to strengthen cooperation in the coming time.
Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen expressed his desire that in his position, the Ambassador would inform about the directions and development priorities of Can Tho city in the coming time to the Government as well as Indian partners. At the same time, promoting investment and trade connection activities between the two sides to support each other’s development.
